Festive Afternoon Tea at The InterContinental London Park Lane
The Christmas theme of the rather excellent afternoon tea today is in the Wellington Lounge of the InterContinental London Park Lane. And it is divine – each element is done so well, and the combination of all of them makes for one of the most sparkly and best teas that I’ve had in a long while.
The scones are brilliant for spreading of cream and jam onto a hot baked good, as well as strawberry jam and Devonshire clotted cream… Delicious. The scones at the Christmas themed afternoon tea at InterContinental London Park Lane are festively spiced and hotly served, and the citrus spreads dab on so willingly that the pairing of both is something so natural and good.
The Christmas theme is emblematic in all facets of the afternoon tea today, and the savoury tier is cleverly modelled on a traditional Christmas dinner. Plates are laid with characteristically Christmassy red napkins and then laid over with warm stilton, chestnut and walnut vol-au-vents and honey roast root vegetable pies with gravy for drizzling. There are open-faced sandwiches of smoked salmon, cray fish and prawns in Marie Rose sauce, others scooped with turkey and sage stuffing in black pepper and clove mayonnaise.
The classic festive flavours and nostalgic scents are brought to life again with the last and best aspect of the Christmas Unwrapped afternoon tea – the dessert extravaganza. The festive creations are placed like gifts in a red bow box under mini-Christmas trees, and include plum pudding mousse, Christmas cake, Yule log, and spiced apple pie.
