All the sweet things to eat for afternoon tea at Laduree, Covent Garden

Calling all macaron lovers living in London! There’s an afternoon tea at Laduree, Covent Garden, and it’s filled with French sweet treats.

And in case you didn’t know, Laduree in Covent Garden is one of the London branches of this famous patisserie. Laduree originate in Paris, where they started out baking their famous double-decker macarons in 1862.

They’ve since shipped them all over the world, with cute little shops popping up everywhere. Luckily for this macaron lover, I’m often in Covent Garden and can pop into their shop. After my last visit, I realized they do an afternoon tea, which is filled with their desserts and their macarons. Oh la la.

The branch in Covent Garden takes up two floors at the main market. Seating on the ground floor is all outdoors, and gives you a great view over the ubiquitous street performers. It’s also a great place to people-watch. And on the first floor, most of the seating is indoors, with a few tables on the covered terrace.

So for afternoon tea, Laduree in London let you choose two macarons each. I pick orange blossom and rose, and my sister has chocolate-covered raspberry and a blue-coloured ‘marie antoinette’ macaron. We also order an extra – raspberry 😊

We get it, you like macarons. What else is on the menu?

As well as macarons, the afternoon tea also has two sweet treats per person. The first is the rose ispahan, which is like a macaron sandwich. In between the two rose macaron shells is a dollop of rose cream and fresh raspberries. Yum.

The second dessert of the Laduree afternoon tea is the Plaisir Sucre, which is chocolatey heaven. It’s made of a hazelnut and praline dacquoise (the crunchy bottom) and topped with swirls of chocolate ganache.

I knew the desserts were going to be the best part of afternoon tea here!
We also have two finger sandwiches each, one with cucumber and cream cheese, and the other with smoked salmon.

And our afternoon tea in Covent Garden ends with a couple of scones each. We thumb these open and spread them with lots of clotted cream and jam. Delicious.

As well as the food, you can also order one hot drink as part of the afternoon tea. We both get the Coffee Laduree – which is a cup of coffee with a side of Chantilly cream. It’s so good – I wish Costa did it too.

I’m always surprised at how filling an afternoon tea is, considering its made up of lots of fiddly small things. I came away with the same feeling after eating afternoon tea at Laduree in London. And that’s a great thing, because you get to eat lots of little bits and bobs, and slowly fill up. There’s spice in variety after all.
