Lunch at Aubaine Selfridges

I’ve recently made it my mission to visit the prettiest restaurants in London, and my list wouldn’t be complete without including Aubaine Selfridges.

Having seen gorgeous images of the restaurant on Instagram, the time has come for me to pay it a little visit. Therefore, with images of beautifully draped wisteria in mind, I head to Aubaine Selfridges to see what all the fuss is about.

Spoiler alert: It’s not just the wisteria that wows at Aubaine Selfridges.

What makes Aubaine Selfridges so attractive?

Erm – just look at it :) Flourishes of purple blooms, in the form of Wisteria, hang from the ceiling and drape down to the diners below.

The walls are panelled in dove grey, and between the panels are etched mirrors. Overall, the effect is lovely; it’s like a garden that is suspended on the second floor of Selfridges. Oh, and the views out to the London streets are very romantic too.

And how is the food at Aubaine Selfridges?

After admiring the general loveliness of our surroundings, we settle in to generous seats and inspect menus.

There are pastries, from which we order (and love) the pain aux pistaches. Essentially this is almost like a pistachio cronut, where layers of crispy pastry interleave with sweet pistachio and almond. Yum.

Following this, we dig in to croissant aux amandes, or almond croissant, and cups of very good coffee.

And then our mains arrive! In one plate is a tantalising display of French toast brioche, covered with strawberries, blueberries, caramelised banana, crème fraîche and maple syrup.

In another equally irresistible plate are a pair of poached eggs, covered in velvety hollandaise sauce. Underneath these sit fine layers of smoked salmon and more of that lovely toasted brioche.

Lunch moves pleasantly through all of this food, with plenty of coffee, tea and orange juice. Soon the room fills up, and it’s time to relinquish our table and head back out. All in all, we’ve had a brilliant lunch at Aubaine Selfridges, and have booked a return visit soon :)
