Onsu Bakery’s chocolate pecan and banana cake doesn’t look particularly flashy sitting in the display cabinet, but one bite is all it takes to understand why I keep going back. The sponge is impossibly moist, thanks to the banana, while dark chocolate adds richness without being bitter. Toasted pecans bring just enough crunch to keep every mouthful interesting.
I’ve tried almost everything at Onsu, but this is still the cake I daydream about. If you’re only making one bakery stop in Soho, make it this one.

The Yorkshire rhubarb choux at Moi proves that perfectly. Delicate choux pastry gives way to a silky filling, while the rhubarb cuts through everything with it’s classic of sweet-sharpness.
It’s an elegant dessert, beautifully balanced and ridiculously easy to eat inhale.
When I first reviewed the Moi dessert, I described it as joy in pastry form. Looking back, I don’t think I could sum it up any better. If you’re after something that feels refined rather than overly sweet, and has great textural complexity, this is the Soho dessert to order.

Kinako French Toast with Matcha Soft Serve at Bone Daddies
For the best French toast dessert in Soho
Like a parent, I’m probably not supposed to have a favourite. But when I get asked about what the best dessert in Soho actually is, my mind always goes to one thing.
Years after I first tried it, the Kinako French toast at Bone Daddies (prev Shack-Fuyu) is still my favourite dessert in London. The toast is impossibly fluffy in the middle, with a caramelised crust that cracks under your spoon like a creme brulee. Then comes the cold matcha soft serve, slowly melting into every corner, while roasted soybean flour adds a gentle nuttiness that keeps everything perfectly balanced.
It’s comforting, nostalgic and every bit as good as the hype suggests.
Just note that while Shack-Fuyu has closed, it’s sister restaurant Bone Daddies is now operating the same space, and offering the same dessert. So all is not lost :)

Most people head to Milksha for bubble tea, but I think the real star is the matcha and vanilla soft serve. Creamy vanilla swirls beautifully with earthy matcha, creating something that’s refreshing and moreish.
It’s simple, understated and exactly what I want on a warm afternoon wandering around Greek Street.
If you’re only ordering one thing at Milksha, make it the soft serve. Trust me.

One of the best desserts in Soho comes at the end of one of London’s best Sunday roasts.
Blacklock’s famous white chocolate cheesecake is scooped up from a family tray at your table, a generous hillock of creaminess on a plate.
The cheesecake is wonderfully smooth, the biscuit base buttery and crisp, and the portions gloriously generous. Somehow, even after a huge roast dinner, I always seem to find room.
Maybe dessert really does go to a different stomach.

Sometimes less really is more, as Impala shows us with their one dessert option, which they’ve nailed.
The salted date and pistachio tart is perfection, with naturally sweet dates, crunchy pistachios and just the right kick of salt for balance. The pastry is beautifully crisp too, which means every bite has that satisfying crunch layered with the soft filling.
My only complaint? I wish it was bigger.

If you’re looking for a comforting and classic British pudding, then head to The Devonshire for their bread and butter pudding. If features soft bread soaked in a light vanilla custard and topped with a layer of caramelised sugar that shatters like creme brulee.
It’s a great version, even if I personally prefer bread and butter pudding with more obvious layers and crusts for extra texture. Still, it’s one of the best desserts in Soho to order after having The Devonshire’s legendary Sunday roast.

I know what you’re thinking: they’re just pancakes, hardly the best dessert in London…
They’re really not.
Japanese souffle pancakes are more like eating sweet clouds than breakfast, and Fuwa Fuwa does some of the fluffiest in London. They’re light, airy and almost disappear the moment they hit your tongue.
And they have the best wobble. You can order them with a bunch of different sides. Our favourite is cream and strawberries. Yum.

Technically, this isn’t a dessert. I’m including it anyway because it’s my blog and because the hot chocolate is so thick you need a spoon to eat it.
Italian Bear Chocolate serves what can only be described as a mug of melted chocolate. Forget watery hot chocolate. This is gloriously thick, intensely rich and decadent.
And if you’re wondering which one to get – always get the mixed milk and dark chocolate, which is beautifully balanced with the darker chocolate pulling back on the sweetness and adding more depth.
If winter had an official dessert, this would be it.

Every now and then, a dessert becomes so popular it gets its own shop. That’s exactly what happened with Puffy.
The cookies first built a cult following at Junk (a Soho burger spot) before becoming successful enough to earn their own London bakery next door. After trying one, it’s easy to see why.
The chocolate chip cookie arrives hot, soft and gloriously squidgy in the middle, while the outside keeps just enough bite. Add a swirl of vanilla soft serve and suddenly you’ve got the best dessert in Soho. The contrast between warm cookie and cold ice cream is ridiculously satisfying.
It’s also easily big enough to share.

You’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve got no room left after working your way through Tamila’s dosas, curries and ridiculously flaky roti. Trust me, make room anyway.
The gulab jamun is the perfect way to finish the meal. Warm, syrup-soaked dumplings sit in fragrant saffron-infused milk, creating a dessert that’s comforting, delicately floral and light. It’s a little different from the gulab jamuns I’ve had elsewhere, but in the best possible way.
