Christmas Recipes in Festive By Julia Stix & Eva Fischer

Festive by Julia Stix & Eva Fischer cookbook review

Feeling festive? This cookbook has all the recipes you need for a brilliant Christmas

The run up to Christmas is an excellent time of year. I love the cheesy movies on tv, the puddings in the shops, and the run on xmas turkeys. The lights, the cakes, the chocolates! So, I knew that a cookbook filled with festive recipes would be right up my street. And that’s where Festive by Julia Stix and Eva Fischer comes in.

What are the recipes like in Festive by Julia Stix & Eva Fischer?

Festive is a brand-new cookbook filled with 24 recipes.

It’s sort of like the advent calendar of cookbooks. Except that I can see myself making a lot of things throughout the year.

Each recipe is laid out on one page, and on the opposite side is a full-page picture of the finished dish.

A quick scan through has me reaching for my trusty sticky notes, marking out dishes I want to make. The pumpkin gnocchi look delicious, and the leg of lamb recipe has my name all over it.

Each of the recipes in Festive look like they’d be straightforward to make.

There doesn’t seem to be too much faff involved, and there are plenty of easy recipes so kids can get involved too.

I tried just a couple of them out – enough to be able to say I like this as a cookbook. I’d try more, but I wanted to write about it before we get too close to Christmas. So here goes.

Why do people still buy real cookbooks?

Gingersnap cookie recipe

I loved making the gingersnap cookies from Festive. The recipe is really easy, so you’ll be whip it up in no time. And the cookies are chewy and deliciously spiced.

Mine turned out a little flat, but I think that’s because I had the heat up too high. Either way, they make for a great run-up-to-Christmas treat.

Mexican hot chocolate recipe

This recipe really puts the hot in hot chocolate! You melt chopped up chocolate into milk, and then add a pinch of chilli flakes. Make sure you strain before you serve, otherwise you might end up with a bit too much heat

Creamy parsnip soup recipe

As far as comforting Christmas recipes goes, this is a goodun. I love parsnips anyway, so cooking them up in a soup is a winner in my book. I’d double the quantity of croutons though, as they add a nice crunch and balance out the sweetness of the soup.

Overall thoughts on Festive by Julia Stix & Eva Fischer

I’ve enjoyed making my first few recipes from Festive. It’s a great new cookbook filled with Christmassy culinary treats. And I’ve got a bunch more marked to cook up. Yum.
