A Heavenly Afternoon Tea in Canary Wharf

Afternoon tea in Canary wharf plateau

We explore Plateau’s zodiac-inspired afternoon tea in Canary Wharf

This winter, Plateau are partnering with British jewellery brand Astley Clarke to host a limited edition afternoon tea in Canary Wharf. The tea is apparently inspired by heavenly bodies, and so we have high expectations of a starry affair.

Our overall thoughts of the Plateau afternoon tea in Canary Wharf

I’m not so sure that Canary Wharf is known for it’s afternoon tea experiences, but I’m glad to report that at Plateau it’s a good’un.

We love it from start to finish, and at £22 per person think it’s exceedingly well priced for the quality of things you get.

The savouries

This afternoon tea keeps savouries simple, with a classic cucumber sandwich on white bread, a smoked salmon sandwich on wholemeal bread, and a sesame bun filled with chicken breast and a tarragon sauce. Yummy.

Our favourites are the cucumber and salmon finger sandwiches, and we cheekily order seconds. Is there anything more satisfying than a slim, perfectly formed finger sandwich?

The scones

Love, love, love. As soon as we pick these up and realise they’re still warm, we’re both sold.

We proceed to pry them open, revealing plump insides, and spread them with thick clotted cream and loose, deliciously seeded strawberry jam.

I only wish I had more stomachs for all this delish food. Feed me all the scones please.

The desserts

The celestial, astrological part of the afternoon tea at Plateau becomes most evident in desserts.

There are vanilla macarons placed inside white chocolate wafers, painted with stars around them. Then we try the white chocolate and raspberry choux buns, piped with a ribbon of blue to suggest a vibrant galaxy. Our favourite dessert though is the chocolate ganache cake; simple, rich and a hugely satisfying end to our afternoon tea.

Overall we’ve loved our experience of afternoon tea in Canary Wharf. We’ve had lunch at Plateau before (read out post for it here), and have enjoyed being back for afternoon tea too.

If you’d like to try out this limited edition afternoon tea then it runs until February 2020. The normal package, which includes a hot drink each, costs £22 per person. If you want to take a piece of jewellery home, opt for the VIP package priced at £100 per person, which includes a gold vermeil compass pendant necklace from Astley Clarke.
