Brunch at Nobu Hotel
You guys know me. I’m all about the lazy Sunday brunch. Pair that with unlimited sushi, sashimi and macarons to finish, and I’m there. With this in mind then, the weekend brunch at Nobu Hotel, with its unlimited supply of all of the above, was always going to catch my eye.

In contrast, when Nobu was just a standalone restaurant I never went. It seemed a bit passé and, when it came to Japanese restaurants, I was more of a Roka sort of girl anyway.
But now that Nobu have opened their first hotel in London, I can’t seem to get enough of it. In fact, I’ve now been to the Nobu Hotel in Shoreditch twice: once on my wedding night, and once now. It was a beautiful hotel to spend a night in, and the brunch at Nobu is pretty wonderful too.
Without further ado then, here is my review of the weekend brunch at Nobu Hotel, Shoreditch.

Bottomless sushi at the brunch bar
In my opinion, brunch at Nobu Hotel begins and ends with its brunch bar, from which you can get as much sushi and sashimi as you like.
That, alongside its bottomless dessert selection of macarons, is the main pull for me. I imagine that it will be the same for most people.

The bottomless bar is located in the main restaurant atrium, overlooking the hotels new Japanese garden. It’s a beautiful space, filled with light and food. Mmm.

The brunch bar is filled with sushi – salmon, tuna and grilled eel, freshly sliced and lovingly arranged on top of gently shaped rice. There is sashimi too, salmon and tuna again, with the addition of seabass.
Then there is a small salad selection, where you can add splashes of soy and miso to leaves, dotted with salmon and tuna tartar, and all topped with cute little fried rice ‘croutons’.
As well as all of that, there are also plates of seared beef tataki (yum) and a couple of different varieties of maki and futomaki.
It’s just a bit lovely…
The only comment that I have, now that I’ve been, is that the selection of sushi and sashimi is a little limited. It’s mostly salmon and tuna that make up the majority of the action.
Don’t get me wrong, its all of excellent quality – and you can go up and get as much of it as you want. However, seeing as this is Nobu, I do think they could have offered one or two more complex sushi options. Although the quality is excellent, it’s all a little simplistic.
Maybe they could have been a bit more playful – a spray of wasabi mayo on a curving arrangement of dragon or rainbow maki for example. And maybe something tossed in brightly coloured fish eggs. You know the drill.
One main dish per person
As well as having your way with the beautiful brunch and dessert bar, you also get to pick one main meal per person.
There are a number of different things to choose from, each sounding more lovely than the last. In the end we pick the rock shrimp tempura, a Nobu classic that is as moreish as ever.

We also try precious bites of the silky black cod, which is far too small and far too good to share really… Nom.
As well as these, we opt for a portion of matcha waffles with Kara-age chicken. In theory these should be brilliant, however in reality this is a bit of poor dish.
The waffles are lovely and matcha-green, but they’re a bit dry and a bit flat. There’s also nothing that ties the chicken to them; normally it would be maple syrup which works wonderfully, but here it’s a tab of butter, and a tomatoey dipping sauce. Weird.

Desserts and final thoughts
For desserts our eyes wander back to the brunch bar, where we chomp on delightfully chewy macarons. There are also pastries and cakes.
All in all its been a fantastic brunch at Nobu Hotel in Shoreditch. We’ve been excellently looked after and the hospitality is second to none. Although there have been a couple of slight comments for the food, overall our brunch has been stunning.
Until next time Nobu ;)
