Date Night at Jones Family Affair, Covent Garden
Scrumptious steak with my date at Jones Family Affair, Covent Garden
I’ve been married coming up to four years, and date nights have always been important. I love taking time out of our busy lives and doing something fun. So this month, we’re doing date night at Jones Family Affair in Covent Garden.
Jones Family Affair has to be one of the newest restaurants in Covent Garden, which gives our date night an extra shine. We arrive for an early lunch sitting, and slip into comfy seats.
Although everything on the menu looks great, there’s just one thing I have my eye on. And that’s the Chateaubriand steak for two.
Is there anything more romantic than sharing a steak?
There’s something quite primal about a big cut of meat.
And I also think you have to be fairly comfortable with your date to share the same steak.
And at Jones Family Affair, there are a couple of different cuts of sharing steak to choose from. Some have bones in them, while the Chateaubriand doesn’t. A Chataeaubriand has been called the best cut of beef you could eat because it’s gorgeously silky and smooth. So we’ve got to try it.
It comes out big and juicy, and cut up so you can see the blush-pink meat inside. We fork slices onto our plates, knives going through the meat with almost no resistance. This is some of the best steak I’ve had in London.
What else did we eat at Jones Family Affair?
Along with the steak we also order a couple of sides, the best of which is a buttery dauphinoise potato. Yum.
And to start, we have a beetroot salad with goats cheese, and a perfectly cooked duck egg with wild mushrooms. Both are very good indeed.
And like any good date night, we finish by sharing a couple of desserts.
Hubby’s pick is the best – a sticky, sweet, malty pear tatin. I like my chocolate slice too, but nothing can beat the silkiness of those pears.
Overall thoughts on our date night at Jones Family Affair
I loved our visit – the food is brilliant, and the steak is some of the best in Covent Garden. Can’t say fairer than that.
Is the steak at Jones Family Affair halal?
The restaurant doesn’t serve halal meat. There are some interesting fish options though, and a couple of veggie dishes.
