Reliable breakfast classics at Daylesford Organic

Daylesford Organic is a beautiful farm shop located in Notting Hill, and I’m here today mostly to buy some Easter treats for my little one. Naturally, I end up doing what always happens in places like this. I get hungry, and decide breakfast is necessary.

It helps that there aren’t that many places to get a decent breakfast in Notting Hill, or at least not that many new ones I haven’t already tried.

So when you find yourself already inside a farmshop that smells like fresh bread and expensive olive oil, stopping for eggs and coffee seems like a sensible life choice.

The Daylesford Organic Notting Hill vibe

Daylesford Organic Notting Hill sits just a few steps from the bustle around Portobello Road, and you can sense what it’s trying to be. A little oasis of calm. A farmshop fantasy. A place that wants you to slow down in the rush of city living.

Ok, I can be on board with that.

Inside, the farmshop leans into a rustic, organic aesthetic.

There are baskets filled with vibrant fruit and vegetables – shiny apples, glossy greens, perfect lemons.  I find myself hovering over the produce like I’m about to cook something ambitious, even though I know full well I’m here for Easter treats and a nice breakfast.

Around the corner is the cheese counter, with its proper wedges and slabs of grown up cheese. The kind you buy when you’re hosting, or when you want to feel like you’re hosting.

My favourite part is the display of fresh sourdough loaves, rolls, things crackly and warm-looking, the kind that you know will be good toasted with salty butter.

And then come the jars, filled with jams of all sorts. Chutneys. Spreads. Preserved things you don’t need until you see them lined up in tidy rows and suddenly you’re considering whether you’re a rhubarb jam kinda person. Spoiler – you are.

The price tags, of course, are Daylesford Organic price tags. Still, it’s a lovely place to browse, and pick up a couple of treats.

The outside tables are nicer than the inside dining room

There’s also a mezzanine level at Daylesford Organic, which is where the inside dining space is for the cafe.

Personally, I find it a pretty charmless space with its lack of windows and general flat ambiance.

Instead, have your breakfast on the tables outside the shop. Sitting here feels much better, in the daylight and people-watching, with a coffee and breakfast. Much better.

The cappuccino

I order a cappuccino first, because that’s always my baseline test. It arrives even, balanced, and smooth. It’s nicely made, even if it’s not particularly mind-blowing, but absolutely a pleasant coffee to drink alongside breakfast.

If I’m comparing it to Granger & Co, which is one of my personal reference points for Notting Hill breakfast drinks, it doesn’t quite reach that level. Granger’s coffee has more depth and polish.

Still, the cappuccino at Daylesford Organic is good enough that you won’t regret it.

Daylesford Organic Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs

Now for the main event – trying out breakfast at Daylesford Organic. The menu is short, and full of reliable classics that use quite a bit of farmshop produce.

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs is one of those combinations that’s hard to get wrong, and Daylesford Organic doesn’t try to reinvent it.

The smoked salmon is clean, silky, and gently smoky. The eggs are a little fresher and more just made than the scrambled eggs I’ve had at other breakfast spots in Notting Hill (Granger & Co). They’re good – but they’re not really good.

Then there’s sourdough, which holds everything together. It’s a decent base for the scrambled eggs and salmon.

So is Daylesford Organic worth it for breakfast?

Having tried breakfast at Daylesford Organic, here’s my honest take.

If you’re looking for the most exciting breakfast in Notting Hill, this isn’t it.

But if you want a calm, reliable breakfast that tastes decent, comes quickly, and doesn’t disappoint, it delivers.

It’s is the kind of place where the ingredients are carrying the experience. For us, that was in the good salmon, the fresh eggs and the decent coffee.

And that’s valuable in its own right.

Would I travel across London just to eat breakfast at Daylesford Organic? No.

But if I’m in the area and peckish, I would happily sit outside and order this again.

Final thoughts on Breakfast at Daylesford Organic

Daylesford Organic in Notting Hill is a decent breakfast option if you’re nearby and hungry.

If I’m really honest, what I like most about the space is the farmshop, which I thoroughly enjoy perusing. And once you’re here… well, a coffee on the pavement tables outside is just a really good idea.
