The Pulitzer Hotel, Amsterdam
Hotel Pulitzer review
Hubby and I have just come back from the second part of our honeymoon to Amsterdam, which was doubly special for us as we were staying at the gorgeous Hotel Pulitzer.
Hotel Pulitzer has to be one of the best places to stay in Amsterdam. Hands down.
For me, the two things I love most about the hotel are its location, right in middle of the canal heartlands on the Prinsengracht, and also that sense of being totally looked after.
The most beautiful hotel in Amsterdam?
The hotel is in fact made up of 25 canal houses, most of which date back to the 17th century. As such there are some beautiful historic touches inside, from the aged beams and tall ceilings, to the antiques and art pieces.

However, the overriding element that ties it all together across the 25 houses, are the brushstrokes of contemporary Dutch design. We love the mix of modernism with more classical touches, and it makes for a really interesting hotel.
Oh, and the food is also pretty awesome too. More on that later. For now, can we just take a sec and appreciate how beautiful Hotel Pulitzer is…
The Location
Located on the edge of one of the canals that circle the city, The Pulitzer puts you right in the middle of all the action.
It’s handily placed on the edge of the Nine Streets neighborhood (De Negen Straatjes) in Amsterdam. This kooky shopping quarter is made up of a series of restaurant and boutique-filled avenues, joined together with those iconic canals. Beaut.
In addition, to the east of the hotel are the buzzing docks and the red light district, just south are the museums and the Albert Cuypmarket, and to the east is the Foodhallen (aka the best food market in the city). Nom.

PS, The Pulitzer also has swings. Weeee ;)
Our Sumptuous Room
Suffice to say we have lots of fun skipping between all of the best places to be in Amsterdam and our hotel.
Coming home to Hotel Pulitzer every night, to this gorgeous bed, is pretty special too. Mmm – so bouncy, so floofy.
The hotel also found out about our honeymoon, and sent up this pistachio cream choux. Yummy.
Mornings at The Pulitzer are in turn quite lovely, elevated with a high-pressure rain shower and some snazzy Le Labo toiletries. Moreover, the marble wash stand and heated mirror make for some rather sumptuous additional touches.
The nicest little touch however, is the in-room coffee-making facility. The fact that we have our own French press and rich Guatemalan, freshly-ground beans to play with is very cool. Nicely done, Hotel Pulitzer.

In addition there are some crispy, complimentary Stroopwafels to work through, but I’d recommend saving them for later, and instead heading down to breakfast.
Dining at Jansz
Breakfast is served in Jansz, which is the main restaurant at Hotel Pulitzer. As gorgeous as the restaurant is, lined with lavender and dappled in morning light, the real treat is the food.
Once you’ve been seated, and your coffee order has been taken (almond milk cappuccinos please) you can head to the breakfast bar. On our first morning hubby does me proud and comes back with plates piled high with goodies.
There is salmon, trout and mackerel (cut thin and smoked), alongside cured meats and some lovely roast beef. Then comes the selection of cheese and bread; herb-laden focaccia, sesame-seeded buns and fresh, hot, crusty baguettes. Mmm.
We pry these open and spread them with silky goats cheese, layer up some smoked salmon and take a big bite. God, I am making myself hungry again.
There are cakes and baked goodies too, alongside creamy mini quiches, exotic fruits, various juices, and milks.
But, just a little tip, the best part of the breakfast at Hotel Pulitzer is in its a la carte menu, from which you can order hot dishes like eggs, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal and more.
From the breakfast menu our favourites are the truffled and scrambled eggs on baked brioche, topped with avocado. Yum. Also the short stack of buttermilk pancakes are beautiful, drizzled with blueberry sauce and crowned with thick, whipped cream.

Heaven. In fact, we loved eating at Jansz so much that we also had to come back for lunch, where we devoured more of those incredible scrambled eggs (that practically hum with truffle), and a juicy burger.
The Hotel Boat
And after you’ve eaten, you have to book in a canal tour on Hotel Pulitzer’s private salon boat. The teak-lined boat dates back to the early 1900’s and apparently took Winston Churchill for a spin back in the day. I have to say that a canal tour is a lovely way to see Amsterdam, and so the boat trip is well worth it.
All in all our stay at Hotel Pulitzer has been wonderful, and it’s the sort of hotel that makes your holiday seem about ten times better. Until next time you beaut :)
