How to Spend a Luxurious Weekend in Budapest
How to Spend a Luxurious Weekend in Budapest
My luxurious weekend in Budapest
I traveled a lot last year, and learnt a great deal more about myself in the process. Amonsgt all of the places I visited, one of my favourite breaks was my luxurious weekend in Budapest. I loved it’s culture and history, and it’s vibrancy especially.
So what were the best things about my luxurious weekend in Budapest?

Where to stay in Budapest – Four Seasons Gresham Palace
For me, the thing that made my luxurious weekend in Budapest even better was the chance to stay at the Four Seasons Gresham Palace, one of the most beautiful hotels in Hungary…
So pretty. I’ve written up a full post for the Four Seasons Gresham Palace with even more pictures, but here are some of my favourites…
On day one of our luxurious weekend in Budapest, we checked in to the Four Seasons Gresham Palace, and started the weekend in the usual fashion…
With a spot of food of course! Our lunch at the Gresham Palace restaurant, Kollasz, was incredible. Just look at that…
St. Stephen’s Basilica & Dinner at Aria Hotel Budapest
After our lunch at the Four Seasons Gresham Palace, we went for a little walk around the Pest side of Budapest. One of the nicest things about the hotels location is its proximity to basically everything in Budapest. After a five minute walk, we found ourselves admiring St. Stephen’s Basilica.
Named after the first King of Hungary, St. Stephen’s Basilica is a gorgeous Neoclassical church, said to hold the ‘incorruptible’ hand of Stephen himself. Oo-er.
Our luxurious weekend in Budapest wouldn’t be complete without at least one evening spent on a rooftop, and the one we picked was gorgeous. One of the best views of St. Stephen’s Basilica is from the rooftop bar at the Aria Hotel Budapest.
As the sun set on our first day in Budapest we sat back and relaxed. Later, dinner arrived..
If the Four Seasons Gresham Palace isn’t your cup of tea, then I would highly recommend staying at the Aria Hotel Budapest.
Day 2 of our Luxurious Weekend in Budapest
We woke up bright and early, and took a dip in the loft pool at the Four Seasons Gresham Palace before anyone else could get to it.
Soon, our tummies hurried us downstairs to Kollazs again, where we piled plates high with pastries for a luxurious breakfast.
Chilling out at the gorgeous Szechenyi Bath
Then, in order to beat the crowds again, we went straight to the outdoor pool at Szechenyi Bath, one of the biggest and best thermal pools in Budapest.
The Szechenyi facilities include 15 thermal baths, with the water luxuriously heated up to 38°C.
The Buda side of Budapest
Afterwards, we went back to the hotel for a quick costume change, before exploring the Buda side of Budapest.
A short walk across the Chain Bridge and the Danube, and a little cab ride up the hill, brought us to Fisherman’s Bastion.
Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the most iconic sites to see, and our luxurious weekend in Budapest wouldn’t be complete without a visit. Just look at the view…
We walked along the Buda side and took in the neo-Gothic architecture.
Before stopping for a classic Hungarian Lunch at Baltazar.
Gourmet goodies from the Budapest Central Market Hall
After this, we crossed back to the Pest side to pick up some gourmet, handcrafted goodies from the Central Market Hall.
The Ruin Bars of Budapest
By now, evening had started to set in. What I really loved about Budapest was how easy it is to flow through the day. First with a relaxing thermal bath, then to the sites, and finally – to the ruin bars of course.
Our favourite ruin bar had to be Szimpla Kert, the most vibrant in all of Budapest. The bars are found in the old Jewish Quarter, and formed on the ruins of buildings that were bombed or left to decay after the second World War.
I won’t spoil the suprise with too many photos. What happens in Szimpla Kert stays in Szimpla Kert ;)
Budapest has been absolutely lush to visit, and although a weekend is surely not enough, I still came away with lots of love for the gorgeous Hungarian capital.
