Dinner at Toms Kitchen, Chelsea
Toms Kitchen – restaurant review
Toms Kitchen Chelsea is one of the restaurant’s I went to when I first got back to London from a holiday in Doha, earlier this year.
I’d spent over a month in the Middle East, reconnecting with family and friends, and dinner at Tom’s Kitchen was to be my first back in London.
On the flight over I desperately missed Doha, the place that had at one time been home to me. I missed my parents house, witness to my childhood, and the people who I had come to love along the way, who still lived in Doha.
So when I got back to London, I really needed a little TLC. And Tom’s Kitchen gave it to me in spades.
Feeling at home in Chelsea
Located on the lovely Cale Street in Chelsea, Toms Kitchen Chelsea has recently undergone a little refurb. It’s a very pretty, easy-to-be-in sort of space.
At the back is an open kitchen, where all the action happens, and which soon provides some gorgeous food.
First up we try an effortlessly creamy burrata from La Latteria, the legendary purveyors of chic Italian cheese. I also spot Stracciatella on the menu, another addictive cheese, this time planted with summer truffles and truffle honey. Mmmm.

The milkyness of the burrata goes well with our second small plate of Salt Cod Brandade. Little hillocks of the creamy fish are covered in silky ribbons of pickled cucumber, waiting to be scooped up with cod crackers. Double mmmm.
Lastly we try neat little slices of salmon, cured with Juniper and served with soda bread and dill yoghurt.
In my opinion, this is the sort of food that I had hoped to get on a night like tonight, where I miss the ease of home. Simple dishes made with seasonal, British ingredients. Little reminders that actually, London is my actual home, after all.

The evening moves on to mains, where the standout favourite is a juicy, ruby-red steak served with the most beautiful roast potatoes ever.
These are the sort of roast potatoes that have a shell-like exterior, golden and snappable, covering a deliciously fluffy interior.
Desserts & final thoughts
All things considered, I’ve really loved dinner at Toms Kitchen Chelsea this evening.
My only niggle is that the tables feel a little too close together, and that there are coats everywhere. It’s a strange thing to notice, I know, but it makes the place look a bit cluttered with puffer jackets and the like.

Nevertheless it’s been a fab night, and I feel better. Especially with this gooey, hot-out-of-the-over dessert. Noms.
