There aren’t many certainties in life, but I like to stick to the ones I find. Which is why, after hearing that the best breakfast in Le Marais can be had at Carette, I have to try it myself.
Carette is located under the arches of the Place des Vosges, one of the most beautiful squares in the Marais district. This branch of Carette is the second one to open in Paris, and is arguably the prettiest.
This incredibly popular patisserie serves some wonderful all-day dining, but their breakfast is the best. On warmer days, I can imagine that there are few things as nice as sitting on their terrace and lingering over their incredible breakfasts.
Is this the best breakfast in Le Marais, Paris?
After many recommendations to visit Carette, we schedule in a breakfast there on one morning of our visit to Paris.
We walk from our charming hotel, the Caron de Beaumarchais, to the Place de Vosges and into the enticing arms of Carette.
It is just a little too cold to sit outside, but we manage to nab a table by the windows. Outside the morning ambles on, and inside we enjoy the best breakfast in Le Marais.
A time for hot chocolate & fresh croissants
Carette’s hot chocolate and fresh croissants are some of the things that make this the best breakfast in Le Marais, Paris. Their hot chocolate is more like a flowing ganache; it is thick, oozy, plump and moves in thick rivulets.
We pour it from the shiny metal teapots, and delight it the smell of chocolate that surrounds us. Lush.
Soon after, we have our way with Carette’s pastries. The croissants are puffy and warm, with delicately crisp exteriors, and fresh, buttery soft insides. We also love the pain au chocolate with its dark chocolate insides, and similarly soft pastry.

Perfectly scrambled eggs & salmon
Having revelled in the pastry at Carette, it’s time to try their smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The eggs are rich and velvet-yolked, and speak of butter and cream (and lots of it). The salmon sits on top in one perfectly thin layer, and its strands break away easily to be scooped up with the egg beneath.
All in all this is one delicious meal. Is it the best breakfast in Le Marais, Paris? Probably. Its good. Try it!
