La Fumee Arabie by Miller Harris Perfume Review

I’ve caught a fever, and it’s Arabian… Since my trip to Doha, a place that is redolent with the most incredible perfumes, I’ve been consumed with finding a traditional Oud. So far I’ve tried (and loved) Byredo’s Oud Immortel, and now my eye has turned to La Fumee Arabie by Miller Harris.

‘Inspired by the romance of the desert, its smoky woods and ripples of rose and vanilla’

La Fumee Arabie by Miller Harris is dominated by incense, and is altogether a darker, drier and more cool-toned Oud. The first spray is filled with pure incense, and smells like eastern spices on hot coals.

Another spray reveals cumin – I remember it from my mums cooking. Coriander is there too, with a slight touch of cardomom that just about manages to round things off.

Still, La Fumee Arabie by Miller Harris is fiercely spiced.

I love how it envelops me in heat and headiness, and an almost meditative feeling. Moreover, the deep, smoky note is addictive. It could almost be burnt, but has been saved from the stove at the last minute. La Fumee Arabie is dangerous.

Those juicy Oud base notes

Beyond Oud, if I smell deeply I can just about pick up the rose, and maybe an echo of vanilla. The dry down is dominated again by incense.

Resinous and animalic, La Fumee Arabie is a rich, dark, calming fragrance. The smokiness makes it feel almost religious: a hot day in a souq; the adhan from a local mosque calling out to its worshipers.

The bottle is just a bit special too, printed with 23-carat liquid gold…

How long does La Fumee Arabie last?

The only thing I have difficulty with in La Fumee Arabie by Miller Harris is the lack of longevity. This perfume transports me back to the deserts of Doha for a few hours at most, and then is basically gone.

Although my search for a real, stay-with-me-all-day Oud is still on, I still love La Fumee Arabie by Miller Harris. It doesn’t complete my search, but I enjoy it in my collection. For a few precious hours, I feel back at home.

Spring in Santorini – A Photo Gallery

This is my very first holiday post in what I hope will be many more to come! I've been bitten by the travel bug and it's got me bad. Where I once used to pillage the internet for info on restaurants, it's now for cheap flights to anywhere within a 3 hour radius of London.
