One Night At The Prettiest Motel In California
Staying at Skyview Los Alamos
Hubby and I recently drove through California, and along the way we stayed at a bunch of different hotels and motels. One of our favourites was the Skyview Los Alamos, which could be the prettiest motel in California.
This renovated 1950’s motel has some cool credentials, and we love the luxurious additions. These include a heated pool, power showers, super-king bed with gorgeous sheets, and pretty dune-views.
Is Skyview Los Alamos the prettiest motel in California?
I’ve only stayed at a couple of motels in California now, so I couldn’t say for sure. But Skyview Los Alamos is gorgeous. Here’s why.
Where is Skyview Los Alamos?
Skyview Los Alamos is located in the tiny town of Los Alamos, on the Pacific Coast Highway road. It’s on the main road, but elevated up a hill, so it doesn’t actually feel like you’re on the highway.
There’s no noise or pollution. Just fields of hilly, sandy dunes, behind which are local vineyards.
An outdoor, heated pool
I know California is hot, but it can be a little chilly in late September evenings. And plus, who doesn’t love a heated pool?
What’s more, the pool’s big enough to cater for the 30-or-so rooms at the motel, so it never feels crowded.
Hubby and I head here first to relax after a long drive.

The on-site restaurant is a beaut
After a lazy dip in the pool, we head to the restaurant for a spot of food. The oysters are perfect and cooling, and we chase them with juicy scallops, and then some very good chicken.

A good nights sleep rounds off a lovely day at Skyview Los Alamos
We head to bed for an early night after watching sunset by the pool.
The bed is lush – there are fluffy pillows on a firm mattress, covered with cottony-fresh sheets.
I’m also loving the mid-century-modern vibes. If Mad Men went on holiday, it would be here.
Breakfast and check-out
The next day we have a hot, high-pressure shower, and then head to reception to check out.
The process is easy, and we fit in a quick breakfast while we wait for the receipt.
Croissants and muesli are laid out on a table near reception, along with orange juice, and filter coffee. We grab a couple of pastries, and hit the road again.
Next stop, Malibu!
