Panteao Nacional
If you want a photo of Lisbon through a keyhole, climb the 100 steps to the open rooftop of Panteao Nacional. Voila!
Don’t forget to also take a shot outside the Panteao Nacional too, it’s definitely one of the most photogenic places in Lisbon.
Arco da Rua Augusta
Climbing up the Arco da Rua Augusta – an easy climb – gives you some of the best views of downtown Lisbon.
It’s also one of the places that you can best enjoy that iconic soft Lisbon light, that seems to drench the streets and make everything glow. Pretty.
Praça do Comércio
This is the largest square in Lisbon, and one of the largest in all of Europe. It’s lovely walking through here, surrounded by canary-yellow porticoes. You can get the best photos of it from the top of the Arco da Rua Agusta.
Torre de Belém
For one of the most photogenic places in Lisbon, visit Torre de Belém.
Top tip – if you plan on visiting Torre de Belém then try and go as early as possible. Firstly, it’ll be much less busy, and secondly, the light might be softer than it would be at noon. All resulting in lovely pictures.
Or – instead of trying to get the picture of the tower with its bridge, try another angle. We walked a little way to the side of the tower, and got this shot of the sandy beach in front of the tower, cropping out the crowd-filled bridge at its front. Easy peasy.
Carmo Convent
For open air, gothic splendour, look no further than the ruins of the Convento do Carmo. The convent was almost destroyed by the 1755 earthquake that devastated whole areas of Lisbon.
As it was, the whole of the roof crumbled to the floor. After the earthquake it was the one building that was left exactly as it was, and now it serves as an archeological site.
As well as being a reminder of the past, Carmo Convent is also one of the most dramatic sights in Lisbon. And it’s one of the most photogenic places in Lisbon too.
Azulejo Tiles
One of the things that really defines the beauty of Lisbon is in its Azulejo tiles. They could be around street corners, in restaurants, or even hotels.
We stayed at Palacio Belmonte the last time we went, and were surrounded by some of the best examples of Azulejo tiles in town. Even in our bedroom :)
Miradouro de Santa Luzia
This Azulejo covered terrace is one of the most beautiful places to take in views of Lisbon.
If you can find an empty spot that it :) Its gets very busy here, so try coming early or on a weekday.
Miradouro da Graça
The viewpoint from Miradouro da Graça is quite nice, and it has a fabulous outdoor cafe, but the most photogenic part is in the nearby church. Look at this:
Costa da Caparica
For gorgeous golden-sanded beaches, look no further than the Costa Da Caparica. It’s great for a day out (and we feature it here in our Lisbon weekend guide), and it’s also very photogenic.
At 15km long, its also large enough to be spread out, and find a spot that feels all your own.
