20 Must Eats in London For 2023

From bubble waffles to bottomless sushi brunches, here’s our list of must eats in London this year!

Like most people, we love a good list! So we thought we’d put a new one together, of all our favourite must eats in London.

We’re not saying these are the most spectacular, mind-blowing things or places to eat in London. But they are the things that will be going in to our bellies this 2023. Nomz.

1. Japanese soufflé cheesecake at Kova Patisserie, South Kensington

We recently went on a hunt for Japanese soufflé cheesecake (yum), and can confirm that the best jiggly cheesecake can be found at Kova in South Kensington. It’s a definite must eat in London!

2. Everything at Sticks N Sushi, Soho

The one thing we find annoying about Sticks N Sushi is their menu. It’s a picture-based booklet, which is pretty but proves impossible to choose what to eat, since everything looks so darn delicious. This being the case, we recently visited with the aim of writing a blog post of all the best things to eat at Sticks N Sushi. Hint – all the sushi. Lots of the sticks. And don’t forget the desserts :)

3. Afternoon tea at Ting, The Shard

Regular readers will know how much we adore The Shard, and the restaurants inside it. None are better though, than Ting on the 35th floor. And, if you’re looking for a properly iconic thing to eat in London, then head to Ting for their afternoon tea. It’s a serious contender for the yummiest must eat in London!

4. Bottomless sushi brunch at Kaia, The Ned

One thing we love more than brunch? Bottomless sushi brunch! We’ve been to a couple of all-you-can-eat sushi brunches in London, and we think the one at Kaia is the best. Although it might not strictly be the best high-end sushi, it’s more than serviceable if you’re in the mood to eat tonnes, for under £50 a head. Om noms.

5. Oysters with a view at Northbank

One of the best must eats in London are oysters, and we love the rock oyster with shallot vinaigrette at Northbank. This hidden little gem of a restaurant does some seriously delicious food, and has knock-out views of The Thames. And the Shard. Pretty.

6. Classic Middle Eastern at Grilandia

One of our favourite things to eat in London is Middle Eastern food. But, unless you know where to go, it can sometimes be a bit blah. Step in Grilandia, a restaurant that knows how to make this humble, homely fare shine. Try their meaty, fragrant kibbeh, their flavourful merguez sausages, and their delicious desserts. Including some very good kunafah!

7. Fish and chips at Avenue, St James

One of our favourite things to eat in London is fish and chips. And Avenue, St James, do a delicious version, in a very grown-up setting. Try it as part of their incredible value weekend brunch!

8. Waffles with fried chicken at Harlem Soul

We stumbled upon Harlem Soul one Saturday lunchtime, hungry and in need of some comforting soul food. They pointed us to a table and brought fresh, hot waffles and chicken. The waffles were fluffy, the chicken was crisp, and the maple syrup added that little ooomph that brought everything together. This is an absolute must eat in London right now.

9. Hand-pulled biang biang noodles at Xi’an Impression, Highbury

For Hubby’s birthday this year we went to see an Arsenal football game at Emirates Stadium. Although footy isn’t entirely our cuppa tea, hand-pulled Biang Biang noodles definitely are. And these stretchy, long, scrumptious bad boys are served at Xi’an Impression, a tiny, hole-in-the-wall eatery just outside the stadium. Good times all round!

10. Beef shortrib and cured egg bao at Bao, Fitzrovia

Bao London is by no means a shocker on this list. By now most people have been and know how delicious their steamed-milk bao buns are. But I’m flying the flag for them again, and especially for the buns filled with pulled beef shortrib and cured egg yolk. Yummy!

11. Coconut cream pies at Jacob the Angel, Covent Garden

If we had to name a favourite place in London, it would be Neal’s Yard. Yes, we’re those basic bitches. Really though, what’s not to love? The Neal’s Yard, Seven Dials area is filled with fabulous boutique shops and interesting places to eat. It also has one of our favourite must eats in London – the coconut cream pies at Jacob the Angel!

12. Flaming salt-baked sea bream at Meraki

If you salt-bake any fish it’s going to end up super succulent. Meraki do a fab version with their sea bream, and the extra flame-torching doesn’t hurt either.

13. All the dim sum at Baozi Inn, Soho

Our favourite place to eat dim sum is at Baozi Inn, Soho. Their steaming baskets are filled with all manner of different dumplings, which are as delicious as they are colourful!

14. Those donuts at Bread Ahead, Chelsea

Would you believe us if we said we’d only have these donuts once before? Nowhere near enough, for how delicious they are. In 2020 we’ll be eating them a helluva lot more, that’s for sure.

15. The prettiest breakfast at Aubaine, Selfridges

One perk of shopping at Selfridges is the amazing number of places to eat there. If you arrive early, then head to Aubaine to bag breakfast at one of the prettiest restaurants in town. Their pistachio croissants are also one of our must eats in London. Tick, tick!

16. Cardamon buns at Fabrique, Notting Hill

We’ve loved cardamom buns since the first time we tried them in Stockholm last year. Luckily, London do some lovely buns too, and the ones at Fabrique are the most moreish, cardamom-filled morsels that you’ll ever eat in the city. We’ll be eating many more of these this 2023.

17. Inventive lunch at The Portman, Marylebone

We’ve eaten at The Portman in Marylebone a couple of times now, and are always struck by how good the food is. On our last visit we loved the cured salmon most, followed by one of the most lovely sticky toffee puddings we’ve had in a long while.

18. The iconic dish at Duck and Waffle, Liverpool Street

London has no shortage of restaurants with views, and Duck and Waffle has to be one of the best. If you do decide to pop in, try out their most iconic dish – the duck and waffle. It’s just as lovely as everyone says, and the views are a bonus too!

19. Charcoal, coconut and taro soft serve ice cream from Soft Serve Society, Shoreditch

When summer hits again this year, we’ll be heading to Soft Serve Society in Boxpark Shoreditch to eat all the ice cream we can. They do a bunch of different flavours, but our all-time favourite is the black charcoal with coconut and taro. Topped with caramel popcorn too, of course!

20. Loaded waffles at Nosteagia, Shoreditch

Last but not least, try the loaded bubble waffle cones at Nosteagia, filled with ice cream and all manner of toppings. We pile ours high with salted caramel ice cream, strawberries and caramel popcorn (trust us, it works)!
