It’s all about the sushi, sashimi and maki
If you eat just one thing at Sticks n Sushi, make it something from the sushi menu. It all looks and sounds delicious!
We scan the list and pick off a bunch of different things. Moments later, platters of the most glorious sushi, sashimi and maki arrived.
Ordering food is my one true skill :)
From the nigiri, we love the soy-cured salmon the most, being a twist on the usual salmon nigiri. It also topped with smoked cheese and lumpfish roe, which proves to be a smart pairing.
For the puritans, you can’t go wrong with salmon sashimi.
If it’s maki you’re after, choose the rainbow! Those symmetrical slivers of fish and avocado are so satisfying, and always put a smile on my face.
At Sticks n Sushi, the rainbow maki are filled with shrimp and snow peas, and rolled with salmon, tuna, hiramasa and avocado.
Lastly, try the black cod daikon maki rolls. These are filled with morsels of miso-daubed cod, charred on an open flame, and rolled with cream cheese, asparagus and daikon.
Next, try the scrumptious Wagyu ‘sticks’
The ‘sticks’ part of the restaurant name stands for a menu of skewered ‘yakitori’ items. There are precisely 18 things that you can have on a stick, including duck hearts, beef with miso herb butter, lemony chicken wings, and scallops.
Our favourite of the bunch? The Japanese wagyu, sourced from Kyushu, and served in Soho.
Delicious doesn’t cover how tasty these bits of barbecued beef are. Squeeze a bit of lemon over them, sprinkle with sea salt, and then pop in the mouth. They’re addictively fleshy, and meltingly delicious.
Don’t miss the ebi bites
Whatever you do, don’t leave without trying the ebi bites. If you like tempura, you’ll love these.
They arrive in the prettiest painted ceramic dish, containing a line up of juicy prawns, battered in bubbly tempura and brushed with miso aioli, lime and coriander. Yum.
And the best desserts at Sticks n Sushi are…
The matcha financier and the crème brûlée! Don’t they look so scrumptious…
The matcha financier is the squidgiest dessert on the menu, filled with marzipan, matcha & dark chocolate. After you’ve had your wicked way with this, try the vanilla crème brûlée. It’s heavenly.
Is the food at Sticks n Sushi Halal?
Sticks n Sushi serve halal chicken, but staff have said that at the Soho branch the chicken is grilled on the same grill as the other meat. They also have a halal sushi menu, and lots of halal fish and vegetarian options if you’d like to visit.
