The Dreamiest Summer Fragrance
How incredible has this summer been… month after luscious month of beautiful rolling heat, of blue skies and incredible moments. And all through summer I’ve been wearing a couple of different fragrances. There have been days where I reach for my Ouds to add spice and richness, or my verdant green scents – and then of course there are the days where I just need my Été Éternel, by Frau Tonis.
Frau Tonis are a niche perfume boutique located in Friedrichstrasse in the heart of Berlin, around the corner from Checkpoint Charlie. Their hand-blended fragrances are designed to evoke feelings of specific places or points in time.
Their scents tell a story of Berlin itself too. For example there is Linde Berlin, a fragrance that is evocative of the lime trees that bloom along the Unter den Linden, and many of the other curving boulevards of the city. Then there is Violets 37, a fragrance composed in memory of Marlene Dietrich, a starlette famous in the roaring twenties.

Été Éternel by Frau Tonis review
In the same way, Été Éternel is described as providing a never-ending summer; of being a fragrance that seems to bottle summer and let you savour it throughout the year. Funnily enough, now that our Indian summer is coming to a close, I gravitate a bit more to Été Éternel.
“Été Éternel – A dream of an eternal summer: tuberose and iris combined with delicate orange blossom”
Été Éternel is a gorgeous fragrance; a mouthwatering medley of accords that manage to be both warm and citrusy. There’s also a slick of something clean and fresh; like soap.
This is one of my favourite fragrances to wear in mid-season, because it suits summer and it elevates the shoulder months.
Rich, sensual, sunny
With its floral bergamot and ylang ylang top notes, the first spritz of this perfume is always going to make you smile. It’s just very pretty.
Soon, you start to notice the base notes; the roundness of tuberose, the clarity of iris and the delicacy of orange blossom. And all of those little sparkles of fragrance rest on a subtle base layer of sandalwood and vanilla.
In terms of wearability, I generally find that Été Éternel lasts the best when I spray it on my hair on clothes. I love the little reminders I get that I’m wearing it, when I toss my hair a bit, or put my jacket back on.
With its sandalwood base, I find that Été Éternel also layers beautifully with richer scents; for example I often use it to soften an Oud.
As well as offering a cornucopia of their own formulated fragrances – 36 to be precise – Frau Tonis also let you come in to their Berlin shop and create your own fragrance. Next time I’m in Berlin I will report back ;)
