Dining at Plateau, Canary Wharf

Hands up, who lives in West London and therefore never really ventures too far East? I feel you. Living in West London means that I go as far as Shoreditch but no further, just because it would take ages to get to. As such, there are loads of things that I just haven’t gotten round to doing. Dining at Plateau in Canary Wharf is one of those things that has been on my list for a while, and so I’m jazzed to finally be able to visit.

The purpose of our visit today is to check out the weekend brunch at Plateau, a thing that I’ve heard is absolutely lovely. We shall see.

In fact, it turns out that the trip to Plateau doesn’t actually take that long; maybe it just sounds further away than it actually is. When we get there, as ever, we are in awe of the urban beauty of Canary Wharf.

Soaring sky scrapers carve out the sky, planted in an island of glass and steel. In the middle of this relentless financial district is a park, and directly opposite this little burst of greenery is Plateau.

Plateau restaurant review london

Platea is a restaurant that inhabits the fourth floor of the Canary Wharf Group Centre building. From the street it’s easy to miss, but if you reach the KPMG building then you’ve gone too far.

Once we find it, we take the lift all the way up, and are greeted with a restaurant with a gorgeous view over Canary Wharf. I imagine that Plateau is rammed on a weekday; however on the weekend there is just the pleasant lull of guests enjoying a relaxed brunch. This also also means that you’re much more likely on the weekend to get a table up against the glass wall, with an unfettered view. Yay.

Brunch at Plateau

Our brunch at Plateau starts with cured Loch Duart salmon, carefully arranged under a melee of green leaves and crème fraîche. Simple but delicious. We also try the soft shell crab, coated in a fine layer of tempura and served with soya mayonnaise and spring onions.

Moving on to mains, our table favourite has to be the sirloin steak, charred just-so and served wonderfully pink in the middle. This comes with fries, which we take great pleasure in dunking into béarnaise and peppercorn sauces. Mmm.

For me, it’s the baked plaice fillet, drenched in a glowy caper butter. I like it as it is, and much more when paired with spoonful’s of the silky mash.

Finally, we round off our meal with homemade cinnamon doughnuts, served with a buttermilk cream, and a delightfully fragrant pistachio crème brûlée.

All in all our brunch at Plateau has been pleasing, and its popularity is well deserved. I only wished I worked here, to enjoy it more. With one last envious look at the gorgeous architecture of Canary Wharf, we head back to West London, where Netflix and popcorn awaits. It’s been a brilliant weekend :)
